NOTE: Hot-rolling and cold-rolling should not be mistaken for different grades of steel. Steels of different grades can be produced as hot-rolled or cold-rolled. HOT-ROLLED STEEL. Hot-rolling refers to a mill process in which you roll the steel at a temperature above its recrystallization temperature; a heat that typically exceeds 1000° F.
Rolling is one of the key processes in metal manufacturing, but there are two ways to 'roll' steel: hot rolling and cold rolling. It is a common misconception that these processes relate to a metal's specification or grade; instead they refer to how a metal is processed at the mill.. Hot rolling
Severe vibrations, known as chatter, occur often in both hot and cold rolling of steel. A recent chatter outbreak at the second stand of hot strip mill in Hastings, Australia, prompted an investigation into the causes of chatter by a literature review, the development and deployment of mathematical models, and a rigorous analysis of plant observations.

Rolling mills are not a standard machine tool, nor are they built for stock. They are designed and built-to-order to specifically accomplish an end product or process. At one point during the industrial revolution in America, the United States led the world in hot and cold rolling, plate mills, slabbing mills and blooming mills.
9 17 Rolling Mills Equipment is massive and expensive Rolling mill configurations: – Two-high: two opposing rolls – Three-high: work passes through rolls in both directions – Four-high: backing rolls support smaller work rolls – Cluster mill: multiple backing rolls on smaller rolls – Tandem rolling mill: sequence of two-high mills 18 Various configurations of rolling mills: (a) 2 ...

The rolling of steel is mainly hot rolling, and the cold rolling is only used for producing small steel and thin steel. If interested in our hot rolling mill machine (wire rod rolling mill and TMT rebar rolling mill) or cold strip rolling mill, please contact us.
The vibration demolding of the crystallizer leads to slab thickness deviation in continuous casting processes. Therefore, in this paper, the dynamic model of the hot strip rolling mill vibration resulting from entry thickness deviation is proposed and its dynamic characteristics are studied. First, the dynamic model of vertical vibration in the hot strip rolling mill is established based on ...

May 18, 2018· Reversing Hot Rolling Mills. Hot ingots from the soak pits or from steel making shops are rolled in these mills. These are transported to mill body by means of a car. A crane is used to load the car with these ingots. The mill receives these ingots and processes them. The mill bed comprises a series of rolling mills.
Jun 18, 2014· Roll pass design is an essential part of long product rolling process, since the long products are rolled between the shaped rolls in the long product rolling mills. Roll pass design generally means the cutting of grooves in the roll body through which steel to be rolled is made to pass sequentially to get the desired contour and size.
- Hot Rolling is done in the 2-High Roll stands. Theory of Rolling Angle of Bite Top Roll Bottom Roll Input H0 Output H1 Theory of Rolling Angle of bite is 25-30 Degrees in case of Continuos Mills and a max of 20 Degrees in case of Cross-country Mills. The picture also indicates that the more the Roll Dia the more is the spread.
In a slab rolling operation, the maximum thickness reduction (Ah max) is given by Ah max = g2R, where R is the radius of the roll and is the coefficient of friction between the roll and the sheet. If = 0.1, the subtended maximum angle deformation zone at the cenfre (bite angle in degrees) is (GATE - by the of the roll 15 -Set 1)
Bar and wire rod mills Hot Rolling. SMS group ... There is an array of products our state-of-the-art mills can manufacture in one mill: angles, squares, flats, channels, rounds, and wire rod. This top versatility also means you can efficiently produce all sizes, materials, and alloys.
rolling mill, dedicated roll cooling systems are required to fulfill the required functions. Examples are suitable roll cooling and lubricationsystems to fully utilize the advantages of HSS rolls in hot strip mills, and selective roll cooling systems as a method to control the flatness of the strip in cold rolling mills.

Jul 01, 2007· This paper considers some of the control issues in hot rolling mills. Hence to set the context, first we give a brief description of a typical process. The role of a hot strip mill process is to roll the slabs produced in a continuous casting process and produce strips of thickness 0.8–20 mm. Fig. 1 shows a typical layout of a hot strip mill.
In this paper, a real application of opti- mal control of a hot rolling mill is presented. It is used the state space model formulation in the minimization of the strip thickness variations.
